Volunteer Opportunities

FaithWorks depends on volunteers like you to offer services and support to families of the Shidler-Wheeler neighborhood. Volunteers continue to be one of our greatest needs. The children and families that visit our community center need positive influences in their lives provided by committed volunteers.

All volunteers must pass a background check and undergo the necessary training for their desired opportunities.

Power Hour Mentor

The Power Hour Mentoring Program connects caring mentors with students to provide academic support, life skills coaching, and spiritual encouragement in a structured, uplifting environment. Through meaningful relationships and guided activities, mentors help students build confidence, set goals, and navigate challenges. This program empowers young minds to grow academically, emotionally, and spiritually, fostering a brighter future.

Middle School Mentor

Being a middle schooler is tough! As a Middle School Mentor, you’ll spend time with students on Tuesdays and Wednesdays—playing games, talking through their day, listening, and guiding. Through simple moments and meaningful conversation, you’ll help these young hearts build confidence, set healthy goals, and navigate life’s challenges with grace and wisdom. If you’re ready to show up with kindness and commitment, you can become a trusted friend in a middle schooler’s life.

Word on Wednesday Volunteer

Join us mid-week for a time of connection, worship, and service as a Word on Wednesday Volunteer. Dive into the heart of our student worship time—sit in on their Bible story (or lead it!), shepherd them in verse memorization, help serve dinner, and worship alongside them. Your presence encourages spiritual growth, strengthens community bonds, and offers students a fun, faith-filled evening. Come help shape a Wednesday night that feeds both body and soul.

Share a Special

Share your talents and make a difference through our Share a Special program! Whether you love crafting, music, sewing, or another skill, you'll have the chance to teach, inspire, and engage young minds in a fun and meaningful way. With a minimum commitment of one month, you can make a lasting impact and spark creativity in the next generation!

Shidler Ambassador

We would love for you to become a "recognizable Shidler friend" for students and a needed encourager for teachers and staff. Opportunities include writing notes of encouragement, assisting in classrooms, working on occasional school improvement projects, and assisting our weekend food sacks team. We would love for you to become a part of the FaithWorks' team as we minister to our Shidler children, families, and teachers.

Thrift Store Volunteer

Join our Thrift Store Volunteer program and make a difference while helping our community! Volunteers assist with sorting donations, organizing merchandise, and keeping the store clean and welcoming. Your time and effort directly support our mission, providing resources and opportunities for families in need.

Special Events

Be part of something special by volunteering at our Special Events! Whether it's a fundraising event, community outreach event, or holiday celebration, your help makes these moments possible. Join us on an occasional basis to support, serve, and bring joy to those we reach—every event is a chance to make a lasting impact!

Internship

Gain hands-on experience in ministry and community outreach through our Internship Program! Designed for those passionate about serving others, this opportunity allows you to work directly with inner-city children and families while developing leadership, mentoring, and ministry skills. Join us to make a lasting impact while growing in your calling and faith.
